Itinerary
Upon reaching Marrakech Airport in Morocco, our journey begins with a brief transfer to the hotel where we will spend the night. For early arrivals, take the opportunity to wander through the historic medina, known for its winding streets and the iconic Djamaa El Fena square.
Our journey commences this morning with a crossing of the majestic Atlas Mountains in Morocco, leading us to the ancient village of Ait Benhaddou. This village held significant importance as a crucial pit stop for caravans in ancient times, earning it the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage status. Moreover, it has served as a backdrop for numerous acclaimed international films like Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones. Not far from Ait Benhaddou lies Ouarzazate, a city dubbed the Hollywood of North Africa due to the plethora of movies filmed in its renowned studios. En route to our overnight stop in Boumalen Dades, we traverse the enchanting Roses Valley, renowned for its lush Damaskina Roses and annual harvest festival celebration.
We will start our journey towards the Sahara Desert after breakfast, heading east. Along the way, we will be mesmerized by the stunning Toudra Gorges, often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Morocco. Our next stop is Erfoud, renowned for its fossils and fossilized Marble. A lunch break awaits us in Rissani. As we continue towards the Sahara, we will switch to camelback to navigate the sand dunes and reach the Berber camp where we will spend the night. For those uncomfortable with camel rides, an alternative option of a 4WD drive to the camp is available at an additional cost. Upon reaching the camp, you'll have some leisure time before dinner.
Following breakfast and a shower at the Berber camp, our journey will take us through the city of Errachidia and the renowned ZIZ valley abundant with Date palms. Subsequently, we will traverse the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, acting as a barrier between the Sahara desert and the country's interior. Ultimately, our destination is Fes, the ancient capital of Morocco, where we will spend the night.
Embark on a guided tour of Fes today, known as the oldest and largest medieval city globally. Within its medina dwell 500,000 residents who rely solely on donkeys and bicycles for transportation, creating a vibrant tapestry of scents, sights, and sounds. While numerous mosques and palaces beckon exploration, remember that mosques in Morocco welcome only Muslim visitors. Following visits to dye-pits, tanneries, pottery workshops, and local eateries, we retreat to our hotel for a quick refresh before an evening of traditional dining and entertainment awaits us. Delight in live Moroccan performances featuring customary dances, belly dancing, and mesmerizing magic in the city tonight.
Upon completing our morning meal, we embark on a journey towards Chefchaouen, famously known as the "Blue City," a beloved destination in Morocco nestled in the Rif Mountains just a short distance south of the Mediterranean coast in the northwest region of the country. This charming blue-hued city is renowned for its characteristic architecture. Stroll through the alleys to admire the white and blue facades of the old town and browse the bustling markets offering a variety of indigenous handicrafts. Chefchaouen is a paradise for photographers, offering stunning panoramas of the Rif Mountains. To conclude the day, we will dine at a local restaurant in the medina, with expenses covered individually, before heading back to our hotel.
